Monday Music Muse: Juliana Cole Rockin’ & Stylin’ to Success

Singer and songwriter Juliana Cole is not your average blonde-beauty. With her angelic voice and the ability to effortlessly move from alternative pop to indie acoustic tunes, Cole has co-written tunes for multi-platinum selling artists, starred in voice-overs for national commercials and had her music played on multiple major networks including ABC, HBO and MTV to name a few.

However, what some may not know is that Ms. Cole has serious style and a serious affection for black leather and rocker jewelry. Kind enough to partake in this week’s Monday Music Muses, Juliana Cole shares her favorite fashion finds, what she’s up to in the music scene and latest personal and professional endeavors!

ICON: What is style to you?

JC: Style is simply a genuine outward statement of who I am…the world’s first impression of me as a person and as an artist.

ICON: How does your music influence what you wear?

JC: For me, fashion and music go hand in hand. I love both art forms. What I write and record is a direct reflection of how I feel (happy, melancholy, grateful). Likewise, what I wear also reflects my many moods and helps express my individuality.

ICON: What’s on your iPod, besides your own music?

JC: Well, I have a 7 year old, so I have a lot of Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift and Justin Beiber (ha-ha!) but for my personal taste, I listen to a lot of John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Adele, Need To Breathe, Michael Buble’, The Civil Wars, Matt Kearney, and Sara Groves.

ICON: What are you currently obsessed with right now in your closet?

JC: I have a black BCBG thin leather jacket that I wear all the time. Put on my Christian Louboutin tall boots over skinny jeans (Citizens of Humanity), throw on a fitted white t-shirt, layer it with my favorite Virgin, Saints and Angels necklace and I’m set! I also have a new Marc Jacobs bag that I’ve been carrying. It’s fabulously fashionable and functional too!

ICON: How do you go from day to the stage?

JC: My close circle of friends are aware of my obsession with clothes. On any given day, I try to dress edgy and sophisticated with a hint of bohemian flare. Whether I’m working out or in the studio. I usually dress with a purpose. From a fashion standpoint, though, the stage is my playground. I kick up the glitz a few notches and vamp up the makeup a bit. I wear Nars and Bobbi Brown make-up for the most part and mix it up with various brands or drugstore finds. I’m not afraid to sparkle and shine in front of an audience. In fact, it’s one of my favorite aspects of this career!

ICON: What can our readers expect next from you in music?

JC: I just finished a 7 song EP specifically written for the advertising-music world, titled Juliana Cole and the BOJO Beat. It is a project I wrote and recorded with my co-producer Paul Buono. It is sparsely produced eclectic collection of tunes with interesting vocal arrangements. This project is set to be released early 2012.
