The Spring 2012 shows at New York Fashion Week have wrapped this week. As I reported over and over again, yellow was the color of choice for many designers, as were other trends such as sequins, jewel tones and magical dresses you only read about in fairy tales.
My overall favorite designers and collections of the season were Carolina Herrera, Zac Posen and Marchesa. Their colors, patterns and attention to detail and sophistication were near-immaculate. However, there were other notable pieces as well. Below are my top 10 looks of the Spring/Summer 2012 shows at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2011.
Donna Karan showcased a collection filled with tribal prints embellished with intricate patterns and beading. This dress was one my favorites for its strong colors, simplicity and cut…in a word…magnificent.
Carolina Herrera had one of my favorite collections of the season. This grey dress with heavy beading is sure to find its way on the red carpet this awards season.
While this dress may not be for the red carpet, Oscar de la Renta manages to infuse color, ruffles and a lady like cut into a daring daytime look for a NYC-socialite or the likes of Anna Dello Russo.
Rachel Zoe took her second collection to the next level by introducing more evening wear, and a more tailored over-all look. This white metallic dress is the first, and only, from her collection that can be worn by some of her celebrity clients on Oscar night OR by a modern and effortless bride.
When I first saw this Reem Acra jacket I almost died…literally. The sophistication and intricacy is second to none. The perfect jacket for a young LA-hipster or older NYC dame. It can be paired with denim to dress it down, or over an evening dress for the chic ultimate look.
No top 10 list would be complete without the most feminine color, pink represented. The draping on this Badgley Mischka dress is impeccable! The marbling of the pink and white are absolutely stunning!
This old-school Hollywood glamour dress with sequins and feathers is amazing. The cut is almost universally flattering …timeless, gorgeous and iconic! By Naeem Khan.
Marchesa is one of my all time favorite designers. Choosing to showcase her collection this season in a runway show, rather than her usual presentation (those poor models!), this embroidered feather dress is immaculate.
Who would wear this over the top dress? Perhaps the lead female character in an 80s music video or daring Hollywood starlet who wants to reminisce of romantic and simpler days? Neither, this dress belongs on the red carpet on a fashion editor who appreciates art, culture and the power of lace.
Zac Posen showcased the most evening wear of any designer this season. It was hard to choose between all his dresses, so let’s let this one just represent them all. Dramatic, beautiful, Hollywood, the string of positive adjectives could go on forever. Pure show-stopping glamour!
So…what were your favorite dresses and designers from the Spring/Summer 2012 collections on the runways of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York?
