New York City –

Balthazaar - Sure this place is all the way downtown on Spring Street, but if you’re at 86th just hop on the 6 and enjoy a nice train ride down (or take a cab or private car) and enjoy the various items off their iconic menu like their Apple Cinnamon Pancakes, Sour Cream Hazelnut Waffles or Steak Frites.

80 Spring Street New York, New York 10012, 212.965.1414

Los Angeles, California -

Campanile – A rustic old-style restaurant on La Brea is known for its grilled cheese plates and romantic atmosphere. Featuring and nurturing some of the best chefs in Los Angeles, this is the perfect place to visit for a sophisticated, yet relaxed day with  your mother, husband and entire family. Try the House Cured Gravlax or Sourdough French Toast!

624 South La Brea Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90036; (323) 938-1447

San Francisco, California -

Foreign Cinema – Open since 1999, has garnered local, national and international acclaim as a quintessentially San Francisco dining experience. Offering a daily changing California/Mediterranean-inspired menu in an industrial chic setting located in the heart of the bustling Mission district. I love this place and went a few times last year when I lived in the Bay Area. Try the Smoked Salmon, Croque Madame or November Scramble.

SHOPPING GUIDE

If you’re reading this section, you’ve probably really screwed up, but fear not I have some AMAZING suggestions for you nonetheless!

Candles – Yes, although this may seem like a cheesy options, candles can be pretty, personalized and a really thoughtful gift when wrapped correctly (and expensively). One of my favorite lines is LAFCO NY House & Home, located for purchase at Barneys New York and Fred Segal LA. These candles come in different fragrances for different parts of your home, so you can give your parents, ‘bedroom’ and your Aunt Idna who loves to cook, ‘kitchen.’ The ICON’s favorite? Why, ‘power room’ of course!
