JVL Los Angeles is a brand of no ordinary basics founded by Jacqueline Lehnhoff and manufactured in Los Angeles with premium cottons and fabrics from Switzerland. ICON: Tell our readers about JVL Los Angeles— when did you launch it and why did you start your own line of clothing?
JL: I started JVL Los Angeles in 2007. I decided to design a high-end collection of jersey knits to fill a void in the market. I was not happy with the style and quality of the jersey knits available in the marketplace. The idea I had was to create a collection with clean lines and sophisticated styles that could be paired with the most expensive designer collections or with a chic pair of jeans. The quality was achieved by using the finest 100% Swiss Cotton Jersey then producing everything in our own facilities here in Los Angeles.
ICON: You’re known for creating amazing basic pieces, but you’ve recently started to branch out. What’s new and why now?
JL: In 2010 I expanded the collection to include a line of dresses and skirts. It just felt like the right time to add them.
ICON: What inspires you when you design?
JL: I get my inspiration from my love of fashion!
ICON: In the upcoming seasons what can we expect from JVL Los Angeles?
JL: For Spring-Summer 2012 we added Mesh Tops, and Bohemian Dresses. Also for Spring-Summer we included a bold color palette of Tangerine, Lemon and Candy Pink.
