When I first discovered new designer Mimi Plange on the pages of Sally Singer’s last issue of T Magazine, I was instantly captivated. Plange recounted how she felt when she saw the first lady, Michelle Obama in one of her designs. As Bill Clinton said during the DNC, “I want to vote for the man who married that woman,” referring to Michelle Obama. I likewise, wanted to know the designer who dressed Michelle Obama. Fast forward a few weeks and I’m at the designers atelier in midtown Manhattan during New York Fashion Week viewing her Spring 2013 collection at an event called, “Tea With Mother.” A presentation that celebrated, “a romantic celebration of ageless beauty.”

And beauty it was. Dresses captivated the Spring 2013 trends of light pastels in mint and pink as well as effortless femininity and delicate glamour. While I am only showing one look here, I think it best describes Plange’s aesthetic. Beautiful, effortless, glamorous and couture. Fit for a princess, or in our case, First Lady.
