I have big news! I’m reporting live from Milan this week and Paris next week for their respective fashion weeks! This is my first season in Milan, and I was so thrilled when CAMERA MODA ITALIANA approved me. Besides seeing familiar faces in the front row like Anna Dello Russo, Chiara (always so sweet) and Marie Claire’s Kyle Anderson the fashion on (and off) the catwalk has been amazing. This is just a quick re-cap of the shows I have been to so far, but I promise I will have a lot more to share with you as the week goes on. So far my favorite shows have been Prada for Miuccia Prada’s imaginative spirit, MaxMara for the iconic animal prints and Gucci simply for Frida!
For Prada we had engorged floral prints on satin backgrounds. The collection was about imagination, dreams and feminine history. While not all the pieces were a favorite for me, I did appreciate the fact that I was seeing something new and unique from a major label. It was a cross between futuristic and aspirational. A unique, but delightful combination.
For Gucci we had retro sophistication. Think Scarface back in his native Naples or Capri. The glamour was sickening and the details embellished. Ever since Frida Giannini took over the house from Tom Ford in 2006 (Tom left in ’04, Giannini became Creative Director in ’06) the label has only flourished and become more romantic and fierce with each collection. Colorful pant suits, expanding collars and sleeves and amazing tropical prints embellished with crystals. If only I could dress like this daily!
For MaxMara the collection was full of browns set on chic satins and animal prints were revisited and treated with colorful stripes. Models wore half turbans (just go with me on that one) and were seemingly on a safari. Remember Vogue’s “glamping” issue? MaxMara’s collection was straight from the jungles of Africa…but on a catwalk in Milan.
Will have loads more, plus proper reviews of the aforementioned designers. Good Morning Los Angeles and New York City!
