“Someplace between the romantic spirit of the french and the timelessness of American sportswear, Catherine Malandrino has created majestic silhouettes that re-image a modern New York woman with an aristocratic dimension.” was the first paragraph off the Catherine Malandrino Spring/Summer 2013 program.
The spirit of the French is really shown within the pieces. The structure in the silhouettes, the fabrics used and victorian style blouses, brought a romantic and femininity into the collection. Plus combining it with the American sportswear created a new kind of royalty.
Malandrino used an array of details to draw attention to the pieces. From French cotton, and suede to stretch leather, embroidered mesh and sequins. This dynamic and unique combination of fabrics created stunning pieces. My favorites were both leather jackets. A cutoff mint green jacket with jewels sewn in patterns, and a white long sleeve jacket with jewels stood out to me. I had to fight the urge to touch the model and pull it off of her!
The color palette consisted of blues, mint greens, powder pinks, pure white and blacks, thus proving that pastel colors are here to stay for spring. Former “Real Housewife of New York City” Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Celebrity stylist June Ambrose and Beyonce stylist Ty Hunter were also present and admired the presentation.
Malandrino labeled this collection “Majestic” which was just what the collection was, majestic.
