Well this magazine cover made me blush! New fashion favorite, rapper Azealia Banks is celebrating her new “blown up” fashion and celebrity status by blowing up a condom on the cover of Dazed & Confused‘s September fashion issue. Yes, people, that’s not a popsicle in her mouth, that’s a red condom. Her cover is so inappropriate that it’s actually been banned in 7 countries!
While, I am so happy that Azealia Banks, an African-American woman is being embraced and prominently featured in the fashion industry, I have to ask… was this shot necessary? Shouldn’t she be more of a role model? Or is that too much pressure? While sex and fashion are no strangers, couldn’t she have been blowing up a red balloon? That would have conveyed the same message and still have been sexy, without being offensive. Or maybe I am being a prude, and like Azealia’s provocative song, “212″ she’s simply showing that she calls the shots.
Either way Azealia still looks great with tri-color hair extensions and bright eye shadow, and I have to admit I can’t wait to pick up a copy. Even if I’ll have to hide the cover from the public! It was styled by Karen Langley and photographed by Sharif Hamza. I wonder who had the condom idea. Did an assistant run out and get one randomly, or was it all planned?
