Angel Sanchez Spring 2013 a Meeting of Architecture, Art, and Femininity – New York Fashion Week

It is evident upon entering the backstage area of Angel Sanchez’s Spring 2013 Collection presentation that his background in architecture has certainly played a role behind the construction of these pieces. Clean lines, angles, geometrical cut outs and bold color blocking meet a juxtaposition of delicate fabrics and handmade flowers.

When speaking to the inspiration of his collection Angel Sanchez noted, “Not only architecture, I get inspiration from geometric art. I love geometric art. When I saw Raphael Barrios exhibition on Park Avenue this spring here in New York we came up with the idea of how to put these elements together. Geometric shapes have always been in my more work. Sometimes there can be too much beading and flowers and ruffle in fashion, I want to be more precise. A precise line. But still keeping things soft and feminine. That is my balance.”

Raphael Barrios was a definite inspiration in the jewelry of this line, with miniature blue and pink plastic sculptures serving as an earring or a broach to a backdrop of slicked back, knotted hair.

Sanchez’s come back after 5 years out of the game was met with a flurry of celebrity support. From socialite Tinsley Mortimer to Zombie Boy Rick Genest from Lady Gaga’s “Born this Way” video, Angel Sanchez was welcomed back with open arms. “Now I am living my moment, this moment is my comeback after more then five years without showing under the tent. You are in the middle of everybody showing. I am excited to be here and I am planning to show every season here.” I loved the elegant clean lines of this collection and the sheer dropped backs of the dresses that were graced by a scatter of small hand made flowers. It was a bold display of canary yellow, navy, blush, black and nude. An architect’s industrial fashion dream. Pieces fit for the Museum of Modern Art. Bravo Angel Sanchez on a brilliant return.
